Teaching Philosophy
At our studio, we are passionate about creating personalized learning experiences that empower and inspire students. We strive to cultivate a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters enthusiastic learning and helps students discover their love for music.
- To begin the journey, building a solid technical foundation and knowing how to make good use of the body would be our first goal.
- But students can't properly learn the technique without thinking musically and feeling rhythmically, and we can't go far without good reading skills and understanding theory.
- There would also be times when we have much fun looking into the nuances and styles or stepping back and studying, admiring each masterwork like a piece of artwork or architecture. And we learn to express, to communicate.
We look for opportunities to share music and to perform either solo or in chamber music. We support students to participate in exams and competitions. These activities serve as tools for setting goals and striving for excellence, which, in turn, help us learn and appreciate music on a deeper level, ultimately bringing true joy.
Student Achievements
My students' performances have been appreciated in the community and beyond. Many have been top prize winners in competitions such as United States Open Music Competition, United States International Music Competition, Alameda East Piano Competition, East Bay Music Festival Solo Piano Competition, American Protégé International Competition, American Fine Arts Festival Competition, Etude Club of Berkeley Young Artists Competition, Amador-Livermore Symphony Competition for Young Musicians, Sturm-Page Piano Competition, Ghiglieri Piano Competition, MTAC Piano Solo Competition. Many have been selected to MTAC Panel Honors and Junior Bach Festival, as well as summer music camps such as Boston University Tanglewood Institude and Oberlin Conservatory Piano Festival.
